In an increasingly saturated online space (hello, no barrier to entry), brand photos are becoming vital. They’re one of the most important / quick ways to stand out from your competition. Don’t believe me? Here’s a fun fact for ya… According to Marketing Experiments, website visitors who saw a photo of a real customer were 35% more likely to sign up than those who saw a high-performing stock image. Are we on the same page now? Good, great. In this episode, I interview Amy Lynn Creative, a Wisconsin brand photographer. She’s giving incredible tips for maximizing your brand photography investment…

Brand Photography vs Headshots

Before we dive in, let’s clear up a misconception. Brand photos can include headshots, but a headshot on its own does not make a brand photo. Amy clears up the difference in a really cool way… “If you read the back cover of a book, you’re not getting the full story. You’re just getting a quick synopsis. That’s your headshot. The actual meat of the book, the chapters of the book, are your brand photos.”

Prepping for Your Brand Photoshoot

How do you get brand photos that truly reflect who you are? How do you communicate with your brand photographer to get images you love? What are some details you should think about before stepping in front of the lens to better tell your business’ story? What mistakes should you avoid when planning your session?

Amy answers all of these and more and helps us understand what good brand photography really does for business owners in highly competitive industries. And if you’re thinking, “all of this sounds great, but what if I want to take my own photos or swap with a friend?”… first off, this is still going to be super helpful. But secondly, there’s a handy dandy resource Amy created with your name written all over it!

Making the Most of Your Brand Photos

Amy is the queen of this… not in like a “yaassss queen” kind of way. More in a “hot damn, you know your stuff and that is so creative” kind of way. She breaks down a lot of helpful info like how far you should really zoom in on your profile picture, how many ways you can use the same image to get the most out of your investment, and more.

As her friend, I know how resourceful Amy is and it really comes through in these tips. I even found myself taking notes on a couple ideas she mentioned as I was listening back through the episode. Check out her Instagram for a better visual on her explanations.

Creating a Visually Cohesive Online Presence

To wrap up our chat, Amy also walks us through the importance of consistency online for building trust with potential clients. If your website looks very different from your Instagram, it could result in a bit of whiplash that leaves them confused. And you know what they say… “when you confuse them, you lose them.” To avoid this, consider grabbing her First Impressions Workbook so you can do an internal audit.

And if you want to apply the same level of consistency and intention to your client process, check out my course, Systems That Sell.

Maximizing Your Brand Photography Investment

All in all, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Amy filled our 35 minutes together with so many tips for maximizing your brand photography investment. I’d highly encourage you to share this with anyone in your life who is planning to update their brand photos – whether doing it themselves or hiring a pro!
