Our websites… as entrepreneurs, we love them, we hate them, or we neglect them… Either way, they’re a necessary part of our business! In fact, they’re usually the first impression that help prospective clients decide whether or not they can trust us. So, whether you’re just updating your site during slow season or looking at a complete overhaul, tune into Episode 22 — New Year, New Website: 2024 Refresh Tips!
Why Update Your Site Every Year Anyway?
Obviously, it’s a lot of work and as business owners, the length of our to-do list rivals Rapunzel’s hair. I get it. But a website can make or break your online business success. Don’t believe me? Lemme give ya some fast stats…
75% of people make judgments about a company’s credibility based on their website. And 38% of users will leave a website if its layout or content is unattractive.
Your ugly / poorly written website is more than embarrassing; it’s hurting your credibility. When updated well, your website can work for you as a 24/7 sales person. Not to mention, Google loves to see you update your site & clean up the digital dust because it indicates you’re still active.
What’s Changed?
One of the first things you should consider when updating your website for the new year is what’s changed in your business since your last website refresh?
2023 brought a lot of pivots in the photography industry. Many dropped weddings to pursue more motherhood or boudoir work. If your main service has shifted, your website should too! Not just the main menu, but the person you’re speaking to and their pain points.
There are a few other things that may’ve changed in your business too, which I list in detail throughout the first part of this episode. Tune in so you don’t miss any of them (or the tip I give about making testimonials more impactful).
Is Your Website Set Up to Do Its Main Job?
The main point of a website is to get the visitor to a point where they feel comfortable taking the next step toward working with you. There’s one key factor that helps them do that… I share what that is and a few options for how to make it happen on yours.
How About Your SEO?
What good is it to spend all this time working on your website updates if no one even sees it? The final thing to consider when updating your website is whether or not your SEO is working.
I share free tools to assess where you’re at on Google so you can either mix it up or double down to see better results! And in case you missed it, I also link back to Episode 21: SEO Made Simple with Ryan Moreno.
New Year, New Website: 2024 Refresh Tips
If you’re tired because you’ve been giving your website DIY mouth to mouth for the better part of your business, one option I briefly discuss in this episode is investing in a quality template. Instead of grabbing a cheap one you have to bend to make fit your brand only to replace it again in a few years, get one that’ll grow with you.
I’ve had my TONIC template since November of 2019 and couldn’t be happier. There’s enough “meat” to the design that despite adding new offers and starting a podcast, there were pages that I could easily plug and play. If you want to save 20% on one of their templates (saving hundreds), use this link & CREATIVEBUSINESSCOACH at check out during their Black Friday Sale (11/15-11/27).
