Blogging for business… We love it, hate it, & love to hate it. As solo entrepreneurs, it often feels like just one. more. thing. to add to our already one-trip-salad-bar-level full plates. And to be honest, if you’re not doing it strategically, it is. So, how do we write blogs that actually get ranked on Google? How do we ensure people actually want to read them? And do the two go hand in hand?
In this episode, we’re chatting with Tristyn, lead copywriter & owner of Sipsy Ink. She’s been known for helping her creative clients get over 10k website visitors in a year through single blog posts! Here are some of the questions she’s answering…
Is Blogging for Business Dead?
According to Tristyn, no. It’s very much alive and well. She tells us according to Hubspot, “businesses who post 1-2 blogs per month (on average) get 70% more leads than those who don’t.” I think we can all agree that we would love to get 70% more leads.
But on top of that, did you know blogs are much more likely to rank for long-tail keywords (meaning, really specific phrases)? If you’re a wedding photographer struggling to rank above competitors, writing a hyper relevant, specific keyword-infused blog might just be your ticket!
What Can Blogs Do for a Business Owner?
Aside from the facts already listed, Tristyn gives us a few more! When coaching my 1:1 clients, I always compare blog posts to doors. The more strategic blog posts you write for your business, the more doors you’re adding to your digital home. More doors = more opportunities for people to walk in and get to know you.
How to Get Your Blog Post to Rank on Google
I’d like to reiterate that Tristyn has proven blogs work for her clients who see a massive amount of web traffic from just a few posts. In this episode, she gives us two very specific tips for helping your blog post appear on the first page of Google.
It’s no surprise one of them is using keywords, but she gives her expert tips on how to find the best ones. And she even tells us exactly what tools she uses along the way!
How to Write Content People Actually Want to Read
Because, yes… when blogging for your business, it’s SUPER important that people stick around once they actually get to your website. The longer someone spends on your website, the more valuable Google perceives it to be. If you write super boring or unhelpful content, people will leaving quickly (bounce). A high bounce rate will not make Google want to recommend your site again.
So, Tristyn tells us how to write content people will actually read… even if you’re not a superstar writer. From easy formatting tips to tips on how to hone your unique brand voice, we’ve got you covered.
The Top Blogging Mistake Creative Business Owners Make
To wrap up the episode, we talk about the biggest mistake entrepreneurs make when writing their blogs. Even if you write the most interesting blog post and it’s the first result on Google, your business will not benefit if you miss this ONE thing.
